Ancient Chinese coins: A brief history of Western Xia (or Xi Xia coins)
The Western Xia (or Xi Xia) kingdom were founded by Tangut tribes, which is of Tibetian decend. After creating a strong state in the Ordos, the Kansu corridor and the inner parts of Mongolia, they started moving eastwards towards China.
After adopting the Chinese name of Xia, they make peace with the Song Dynasty, after the latter agreed to pay them annual tributes to maintain peace along the border. The Xi Xia Dynasty were later defeated by the armies of Jenghis Khan.
